Eastbank
Located near the Jim Woodruff Dam, this UACOE is a great campground to break up the trip for only $12.00.

Hoover
The RV Park is at the Hoover Met Sports Complex in Birmingham.

In addition to the RV park, it has several artificial grass soccer fields, multiple baseball fields and a very nice water park.

Big Bone Lick
Big Bone Lick State Historic Site in Union, KY has numerous Bisons.

They are big and really very ugly

and Luna wasn't sure what to make of them.

Camp Brosius
We stopped by Camp Brosius on Elkhart Lake, WI where Matt and his family have vacationed for several summers.

Wausau
In Wausau WI, we stayed at the Marathon County Park where there happened to be a festival with Bar-B-Que ribs

and some hot air balloons.

Presque Isle
On the way we visited the Northwoods Petroleum Museum.

This is one man's personal collection of gas station memorabilia and artifacts.

The owner gave us a very informative tour.

The campground has a lot of walking trails and access to the river.

Once down the, stairs the trail went along the river

including some water falls

Lake Superior

and sunsets.

Bay Furnance
This Campground is in a part of the Hiawatha National Forest and right on the crystal clear water of Lake Superior.

We took a boat ride along the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore

with sandstone cliffs and turquoise water.

There's Indian Head Rock, which has fallen out of official favor as insensitive.

By boat is the only way to see the Grand Island Lighthouse. Built in 1868 it has a brick foundation but the rest is wood.

And some water falls along the path.

Fayette Historic
This State Park is the abandoned town of Fayette.

It once was a bustling industrial community that manufactured pig iron between 1867 and 1891. Sadly it used wood as fuel for the furnaces and eventually the nearby supply of trees was consumed and the town abandoned.

The Manager's house has several pieces of furniture exactly like ones that Bobbi has purchased or received from grandparents.

The town had bicycle races

and a baseball team.

Kitchitikipi Spring
We camped at Indian Lake State Park near Kitch-iti-kipi, Michigan's largest freshwater spring.

We rode the 200 feet across the spring via a self-propelled glass bottom observation raft.

Self-propelled means there is a large wheel that someone on the raft turns to move along the steel cable. Luna tried but without thumbs, she couldn't make it go.

Tahquamenon Falls
This State Park is the second largest of Michigan's state parks. As it name implies it has several falls that are great hiking destinations.

The Upper Falls is one of the largest waterfalls east of the Mississippi River.

Shipwreck Museum
Nearby is the Shipwreck Museum with a lot of history of the Great Lakes naturical activities.

Of course many displays concern the legend of the Edmund Fitzgerald including the 200 pound bronze bell that was recovered 20 years after the ship sank.

Mackinac Island
We have visited Mackinac Island several times in the past

and always enjoy the re-enactments at the fort.

Traverse City
No visit to this part of Michigan is complete without a stop at the Cherry Republic.

And cherry pie.

Near Traverse City are the Sleeping Bear Dunes

From the ground it looks like just one dune, but when you get to the top of one, another higher dune is visible. We made it to the third dune.

Ludington
A short hike is the Big Sable Point Lighthouse

and some more dunes on Lake Michigan

Sauder
In northeast Ohio is Sauder Village, a 250 acre living history village. In addition to the village it has a RV park, hotel with indoor heated pool and a fantastic restaurant.

Displays range from early 20th century farm machines

to early radio and TVs.

Delaware State Park
This is a heavily wooded campground on Delaware Lake in Middle Ohio. A peaceful one night stay.

Point Pleasant
Point Pleasant is the first city in West Virginia after crossing the Ohio River on the Memorial Bridge.

The main event in Point Pleasant was the collapse of the the Silver Bridge that was built in 1928 and named for the color of its aluminum paint. On December 15, 1967, the Silver Bridge collapsed under the weight of rush-hour traffic, resulting in the deaths of 46 people

According to legend, a black 10-foot creature with wings and red eyes called the Mothman was seen flying near the bridge just before the disaster. There is a museum selling Mothman themed items and in 2002 there was the Mothman Prophecies, a movie about the legend staring Richard Gere.

We didn't see the Mothman but there is life sized stature of him on Main Street.

Montgomery
We stopped by Montgomery where Bob was born.

Sumter
And then one night in Sumter, SC to visit with some of Bobbi's relativies.

Anytime the Spencers get together, there is always plenty of food.
