Stephen Foster State Park
Stephen Foster State Park in White Springs, FL is situated on the banks of the legendary Suwannee River; this park honors the memory of American composer Stephen Foster, who wrote "Old Folks at Home," the song that made the river famous. It has one of the best entrances to any campground we have seen.
A beautiful museum with exhibits about Foster's most famous songs.
His music can be heard emanating from the park's 97-bell carillon.
Cottages for summer camp and hands on programs and miles of trails that wind through some of the most scenic areas of North Florida.
There is a pole along the river bank showing the high water marks.
White Springs is also home to the 1902 Telford Hotel. From its better days in 1910 when the city's population was 1,777 the population has declined to 774 in 2010. The Telford regained some fame in the 1980s when Chuck Harder purchased the hotel and used it for his Sun Radio Network/Talk including "For the People" discussing various alien conspiracies. Even if you didn't believe it, it was interesting theater.
Ga Veterans Park
Georgia Veterans State Park was established in 1946.
Richard Mooney, a WWII Navy Pilot, is responsible for creating the beautiful park out of 900 acres of timberland.
Just inside the park is a static display of various tanks, large cannons and prop & jet aircraft including a B-29.
The tanks range from the Stuart M3 light tank at 16 tons to a Bradley at 39 tons.
The park is on Lake Blackshear with many miles of bike trails that wind around fingers of the lake. We were able to see what our RV looked like across the lake.
Of course great sunsets
and a lake with dozens of turtles.
Luna had her own RV.
In Americus the Windsor Hotel is a 1892 five story Victorian masterpiece architecturally designed with tower and turret, balconies, and a three story open atrium lobby. It is currently operating as the Best Western Plus Windsor Hotel.
Veterans Memorial Park is also a stop on the The SAM Shortline train with 1949 vintage cars from Cordele through Americus, Plains ending in Archery.
One morning we woke up to a loud rushing sound that I thought was coming from a ceiling vent that we leave open to reduce condensation. But it was actually a hot air balloon touching the lake behind our RV.
FDR Park
Bottom line is, if you make your husband really mad, leave the RV quickly. This is the remains of an angry husband after “getting back at” his wife. He turned on the gas and let it explode.
Beautiful tulips everywhere, even in the azalea areas.

Petersburg
Great site at the end of a finger along the Strom Thurmond Lake.
A really nice, big site with a great view.
Two Canada Geese came around for bread pieces every day. That’s pine pollen in the water
Luna’s always ready to join us for dinner.
Always looking for something to eat.
Relaxing campfire on the lake.
Beautiful misty morning.
This was a huge duck and sea gull feeding frenzy near our site
The pine pollen was the worst we’ve ever experienced in our lives. It covered everything – inside and out of the RV. We don’t want to go back to Petersburg in March, EVER
Jekyll
Met up with Netzleys for a fun 4 days.
Great bike rides on beautiful, well maintained bike paths that encircled the island.
Canopies of trees everywhere.
Heading to the beach where dogs are allowed.
Luna loved the beach and watched horses go by while on a trail ride.
Always a good time with the Netzleys.
One dinner was at The Driftwood Bistro. Great food, service, and easy bike ride from the campground. Joining us was Mike and Cathy Naro from Chicago who own a LTV Unity Twin Bed like ours. Everyone was at least two weeks past 2nd Covid shot so no masks once we were seated. It is fun making new friends during our adventures.
