Since Thanksgiving, we had been babysitting Jasmine while Micah is deployed to the Middle East and Hiro & Yoshi went to Japan for Christmas. This was a short trip to return Jasmine to Atlanta.

Our first night was at Blythe Island Park, a county park near Brunswick, GA. It was a clean park with dozens of very tame rabbits wandering around. It was OK to feed them and evidently, the rabbits knew that since they weren't shy about just coming up to you.

The park was a short drive from St. Simons Island so although it was chilly, we enjoyed walking along the waterfront seeing some really weird oak trees.

At the end of the waterfront walk is the St. Simons Lighthouse and Museum. It was built in 1872 to replace the original 1810 lighthouse destroyed by Confederate forces to prevent the beacon’s use by Federal troops. Still active, its beam can be seen 23 miles off the coast.

Our next 3 nights were at Hamburg State Park near Mitchell, GA. There are 39 campsites, all on Hamburg Lake with great views. The park ranger told us they had 7 RVs coming in for the weekend, but for the first 2 nights, we were literally the only campers in the park.

The park is home to a still operational 1921 gristmill fed by the Little Ogeechee River.

Near Rutledge, GA is Hard Labor Creek State Park and our campground nearest to Atlanta. The park is named after a small stream that cuts through the park. The creek's name comes either from enslaved people who once tilled the summer fields, or from Native Americans who found the area around the stream difficult to ford.

Like most Georgia State Park campgrounds the sites are spacious and level gravel pads. Our site had a lower tier picnic table with a fire ring.

There is a very wooded area behind our site with several trails that wind through the trees. Probably really nice in spring when the trees have leaves.

Hiro and Yoshi came out for the day and celebrated a late Christmas and Hiro's birthday.

There is a mini-golf course in the park and we had a great afternoon playing golf with Yoshi.

In Covington we found a good restaurant that had outdoor dining in the sun, a special consideration considering the ambient temperature.

Several movies have been filmed in Covington including the "Vampire Diaries"

In Danville we stayed at a park with nice people, the owner drove over to greet us, but still under development. We went to Dublin and played tourist.

Throughout the trip we had clear sunshine days, albeit cold, but the last day was a light rain most of the time.
